Workshops
IHIDS is going to provide on-going bi-monthly workshops to people with disabilities, their families, providers, educators, and other interested people. These workshops will be informative, detailed, and empowering for all we serve. Please check the calendar for dates of workshops, topics scheduled, location and time.
Monthly Newsletter
IHIDS will create a monthly newsletter that is informative and relevant for all. The distribution of this newsletter will be both electronic and hard copy. This will keep you informed at a quick glance all the exciting events we have planned each month. Please sign up for our mailing list in order to start receiving a copy.
Support Groups
IHIDS will provide an array of support programs for parents and siblings. Our current Parent Support Group is focused on bringing in speakers on topics critically important in a small intimate environment where questions and ideas are embraced. Overall, the Parent Support Group meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 6:30PM - 8:30PM at Shoney's in Winchester. Please check the calendar of events for specifics or a potential cancellation. In the Fall of 2007, we will launch a second support group focusing on the idea of a book club where we will study a specific book in a related area.
Families are important to us so we will constantly be asking for parental input for new ideas and innovative ways to support families.
Parent Network
Rolling from the realization of being thrown into the disabilities arena, parents of a newly diagnosed child have so many questions, thoughts, and emotions. IHIDS is developing a Parent Network where we train experienced parents that have gone through many trial and tribulations and want to help parents that are dealing with a new diagnosis. Please contact IHIDS for more information on this vital network of reliable and dependable parents.
Lending Library & Research Center
Planned for Fall 2007, our goal is to have a lending library and research center for families and individuals with special needs. Many families do not have access to the Internet or research in specific disabilities area. Therefore we will have a library filled with disability related books, research articles as well as a computer with Internet access where parents can reserve time and conduct in-depth research.
